Moab’s Story

Moab was brought home to his fur-ever home with the Guild Family on August 23rd, 2022!

They found GRRoM through a google search and began their journey to add four golden paws to their family through fostering to adopt. When they contacted GRRoM, they didn’t know anything about the golden they would be getting. Was it a boy or girl? What color or what shape would they be in? They only knew that they would be getting a 6 month old.

The Moab they met was a very different Moab than today. He was filthy, scared, and not potty trained. In particular, the potty training aspect took 3 months to teach Moab to trust his new family. Being seasoned pet owners to 2 previous goldens, the Guilds knew that the time spent training him would be worth it as these dogs are so wonderful. They spent a lot of time just loving and playing with him. They did not crate him as he spent most of his first months of life locked up and they wanted him to feel free - even going as far as to sleep next to him in the living room until he felt safe. Bringing Moab into their home took a lot of patience and persistence to help him understand not only potty training, but also how to go out a slider door into the backyard, how to use stairs, and also what it was like to be in grass! In the moment, it felt like he would never understand, but these dogs are so smart! Moab finally got it and can now navigate these situations like a pro.

Moab has made an incredible transformation since being brought home. He went from being very skittish of people, especially men, to approaching every person he knows with his tail up and wagging - both men and women! Moab’s mom, Michelle, said that she even thinks he likes people more than other animals! In particular, Moab loves his new family and they love him. He goes almost everywhere with them, even if the car makes him nervous!

The best part about having a golden companion are the smiles and laughs that come with it. These sweet souls fill a void that you sometimes don’t realize exists in your life. The joy and happiness that is brought into your life with a new pet outweighs the on going challenges you may have with them. Moab still has some skills to work on like not jumping up on people, being able to get into a vehicle without stairs, and how to walk on a leash without pulling. There is progress everyday and the Guilds are not slowing down on helping him learn new skills! He is a great listener, but Michelle notes he is goofy and can be clumsy at times! He loves to be upside down with a toy in his mouth after emptying his entire toy box out.

They did discover a new quirk about Moab by chance. He likes to chew on their eavestroughs, so someone had suggested putting hot sauce on them. Instead of staying away from it, he just started licking it! Apparently, Moab likes his eavestroughs spicy.
