SURRENDER A GOLDEN

About Us

We are an all-volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing and rehoming Golden Retrievers. Our mission is to provide a safe and loving environment for Goldens in need, and we rely heavily on foster homes to house the Goldens we take in.

Surrendering a Dog

There is no fee to surrender a Golden to our organization. However, donations are greatly appreciated, as the adoption fee often does not cover the full costs incurred to prepare the Golden for adoption.  Donations may be made HERE.

To surrender a Golden, please contact us by calling our hotline or by filling out the Surrender Questionnaire below. A representative will contact you within 24 hours. We will ask detailed questions about your Golden to determine the most suitable foster home. At the end of this call, you will have the opportunity to ask any information you feel is important. You will then need to complete an owner release form, submit pictures, and provide vet records. Once we have this information, we will begin the process of finding a foster home, which can take a few days to a few weeks depending on the dog’s needs. Transportation from your home to the foster home will be arranged, and while it is appreciated if the owner can assist with transportation, it is not required.

Foster Home Placement

Upon intake, each dog is placed in a pre-screened foster home that is carefully matched to the Golden’s specific needs. The foster family provides care for the Golden for several weeks, during which they identify any medical, training, or behavioral issues. Once the foster family has a thorough understanding of the Golden’s requirements, the Golden is officially listed for adoption.

Adoption Process

When an adoptive family is identified, we ensure they can meet the Golden’s needs and assess the compatibility between the family and the Golden through a meet and greet. If the match is successful, the adoptive family signs a contract. This contract includes a provision that if they can no longer keep the Golden, it must be returned to our organization. Adopters are not permitted to give away or sell the Golden, nor surrender it to animal control or a shelter.
