Al Lengemen

Secretary, Director of Foster Status, & Board Member

My first Golden goes back to 1999! In her old age, my job transferred me to a location that only allowed me to spend time with her on weekends. Unfortunately, she passed just three months before I retired and I have always felt bad about not being around her much in her final days. This regret inspired me to do what I could to help other Goldens, that are in need, find happiness.

Shortly after retiring, in 2013, I decided to spend some of my new-found free time volunteering. I had just lost my golden, Meg, 2 years prior, and out of my love for her I decided that GRRoM would be among my choices. In 2015 I responded to a request from the GRRoM Board of Directors for someone to come forward as Transportation Coordinator. Since that time, besides lining up hundreds of transports with our fantastic volunteer network, I have personally transported 121 dogs, logging over 20,000 miles.

Rescue Tip:

By fostering or adopting I think people will learn not only the complexity of a dog’s emotions, but also how strong the bond between dogs and humans really is.
