Retired Foster as of 2022

“Hello,

My name is Lady, and I was rescued by GRROM in 2022 from an awful living situation at a puppy mill in Ohio which was my life. I joined a foster family for a bit but their family dog was hit by a car, so in October of 2022 I came to my current foster family. I really had no human contact in my previous life and the only dog interaction was when it was time to have puppies, so I came here with no real social skills. Once I got to my new home, I had to be spayed in order to move on with my new life, however there was a problem with the surgery, and I was bleeding internally so I had to have another emergency surgery the next day to help me recover.

Since my arrival with my foster family, I have mostly stayed in bed all day because that is the only place that I feel safe. I have tried to go on walks with my foster family but the only time I am able to go is when it is dark outside because cars, people, and most noises scare me. I have become a bit more social in the last year and sometimes I go outside in the yard to go to the bathroom without being helped. Because I wasn’t cared for properly in my former life, I have frequent urinary tract infections which require multiple visits to the veterinarian and then medication which affects my very sensitive digestive system and gives me diarrhea quite often. My foster family changes my diet often to accommodate my internal issues but the one thing I do enjoy is a small amount of cheese for a treat.

Even though I have started to become more social recently I still have a nervous habit of chewing anything I can get to which led to emergency surgery last month because I chewed and swallowed a bunch of things like my bedding and some plastic which caused a blockage in my belly. I made it through surgery and after some time I am feeling better. I do feel more comfortable as time goes on and feel a bit more like a regular dog every day, so the future is brighter thanks to GRROM. I know it seems like I am a lot of work and expensive, but my foster family tells me I am worth it!”

Lady is a sweet, very timid and anxious golden.  She came to GRRoM just over a year ago, having lived a life as a breeder dog with little human interaction. Her neutering surgery resulted in complications that required extensive emergency care.  Lady also experiences frequent urinary tract infections, and the medications often lead to stomach upset and diarrhea.  Her foster has worked diligently on special diet needs to keep her comfortable.  Her need to chew on things to relieve her anxieties have led to other problems, including an emergency surgery to remove a blockage.  Her fear of loud noises required her to be walked at night when she felt safe enough to be outside.  Until recently, most of her days were spent in the safe surroundings of her bed.  The good news is that time and love are giving Lady the promise of a new life.  She is slowly gaining confidence and with the help of her dedicated foster family and GRRoM, she now has a bright future.
