Macie’s Story
From abandoned to Therapy Dog in Training!
“My husband and I adopted Macie in November 2019 from GRROM. At that time Macie was being fostered by Kathy Goodrich and made great strides being in her home. When she and her husband first fostered Macie, Macie was so afraid that she wouldn’t go take a walk. They worked diligently with her for the few months they had her and when we adopted Macie we continued that endeavor.
Take a look at her progress now:
Macie is currently a Therapy Dog in Training. I was prompted to pursue training and certification for Macie to become a therapy dog as I knew she had the temperament and demeanor needed to be with people who are either dealing with physical limitations or emotional limitations.
Macie started her basic training right after we adopted her in 2019 and then Covid hit a few months later at which time we had to discontinue her training. Since then, we have resumed training and she has passed the AKC Good Canine Citizen exam and is in the process of completing her 50 visits in order to become a Titled Therapy Dog through the AKC.
She is currently volunteering at a local senior living facility where she visits the residents every other week. She is making new friends there and she absolutely loves it. Macie is absolutely amazing with the seniors and they look forward to her visits.
The other goal we have is to have her assist me with my profession by attending psychotherapy sessions in order to assist with patients who experience extreme anxiety and depression.
To date, she has attended over 25 visits to doctor offices and nursing care facilities and is on her way to completing the 50 visits. I want to thank GRROM for everything they do for these beautiful Goldens and for my Macie. She not only brings such love and joy to our family, she is doing the same for so many others as well.”
