Rocco & Remmy’s Story

We can’t stop smiling with the recent news of Rocco & Remmy’s adoption!

One of our volunteers involved with their rescue in December shared this story:

“Today was another GRRoM success that is only possible because of the fantastic teamwork that is part of the organization spirit and culture.
You have likely seen the postings about two 5-year-old brothers whose owner recently passed away. There is more to the back story that needs to be shared. The dogs’ names are Rocco and Remmy and they lived on a farm in Burr Oak, MI which is south of Kalamazoo.
The time window from GRRoM being notified of the surrender (November 28) and finding a foster family was very tight. GRRoM found a foster home on November 30 however the foster family was on vacation. One member of the owner’s family became impatient and brought Rocco and Remmy to the Saint Joseph Animal Control Center in Centreville MI on Saturday December 2.
On Sunday December 3, the plans were put in place to pick up Rocco and Remmy on December 4 as soon as Animal Control opened and transport both to the foster family on the same day. GRRoM can’t thank St Joseph Animal Control (Officer Bingaman) enough for cooperating and bending some rules to release R&R to the transporter. Clearly her priority was finding a forever loving home for both boys. It was also emotional to see an inmate of the St Joseph jail playing with Rocco and Remmy in the dog exercise area. I’m not sure who was having the most fun.
During the ride from St Joseph Animal Control to Jackson, Rocco and Remmy were comforting each other by licking each other’s face. The love and affection they showed one another was touching. It was also an indication that they should not be separated. In the last 30 minutes of the ride to Jackson both dogs fell asleep. That might be partially due to Christmas music being played.
The meeting of transporters in Jackson went like clockwork. When one of the dogs jumped in Al Lengeman’s car for the transport to the foster home, the other was right behind. They were not going to leave their brother behind.”
