Supporting Maverick
Update 11/6/23
Thank you to all of the donors towards Maverick’s medical care! We are pleased to announce that Maverick is scheduled for surgery and will be undergoing a full hip replacement at the Animal Surgical Center.
Thank you so much!
Maverick and his littermate Goose were surrendered to GRRoM last February. Only 2 ½ years old, these wonderful, gentle boys were both experiencing seizures. Under the care of a neurologist, Goose’s seizures are controlled. Unfortunately, Maverick recently experienced cluster seizures - multiple seizures in a short period of time and is now on Keppra as well as phenobarbital to hopefully end these episodes.
In addition to seizures, Maverick has had ongoing issues with both hind legs and is experiencing lameness, fatigue, sway, difficulty/hesitancy climbing stairs and even getting up and down. He has seen Dr. Degner, an orthopedic surgeon at Animal Surgical Center and was diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia. A total hip replacement is being recommended due to the severity of Maverick’s condition. However, surgery cannot be scheduled until Maverick’s seizures are better controlled. He has been stable for 2 weeks and we are hoping his surgery can be scheduled soon!
It is expected that Maverick will have a complete recovery with this surgery with follow-up physical therapy and that he will be able to live a normal, active life in comfort. The cost of the surgery and therapy is expected to be in the range of $8,000 - $10,000.
Many of us were delighted to meet Maverick and Goose at the recent “Golfing for Goldens” event. During the event, one of the attendees was moved to start a special fund for Maverick’s upcoming surgery. We are reaching out to ask you to help us build on that first, generous donation. We are grateful for any amount you can give to help this wonderful guy.
We will update you on his progress following surgery. Thank you so much!
