Susan Theakston

Vice President, Director of Fundraising & Board Member

I became involved with GRRoM after reading a heart wrenching story of 2 beautiful Golden girls being abandoned and tied to a park and ride sign in Auburn Hills. Having a Golden retriever myself at that time, it ignited a passion in me to be part of this organization. Those 2 Goldens were my first experience as a GRRoM foster and I have fostered many since then, adopting 3. I currently serve as the Vice President of GRRoM and also am the Director of Fundraising. I love that I get to be a small part of every dog we rescue.

Rescue Tip:

I could share one piece of advice about rescuing Goldens, opening your heart and home to these beautiful Goldens is pure "soul work". Patience, love, compassion and time is what is needed to allow the time necessary for each dog to decompress from whatever situation they have come from into your home. Prepare your home as if a toddler was coming into your home. Prepare for the unknown as they are learning a new environment and you are learning the unique quirks, different for every Golden. With your help, they will come to know the Golden life they deserve.
