Golfing for Goldens 2024: A Day of Fun, Fundraising, and Furry Friends

On June 24th, 2024, the Golden Retriever Rescue of Michigan (GRRoM) hosted the highly anticipated "Golfing for Goldens" event at the picturesque Fountains Golf and Banquet in Clarkston, Michigan. With a beautiful, sunny day that wasn't too hot, it was the perfect setting for our participants to enjoy a fantastic day of golf and fundraising.

A Day on the Green

The grounds of the Fountains Golf and Banquet were immaculate, offering a stunning backdrop for our 59 golfers who eagerly took to the course. The event wasn't just about golf; it included several fun extras such as a target challenge, providing additional fundraising opportunities for GRRoM. The golfers had a blast, and the atmosphere was filled with camaraderie and excitement.

Golden Guests

Of course, no GRRoM event would be complete without the presence of our beloved Golden Retrievers. The event featured several of our adorable and endearing Goldens, including the infamous and silly Buddy-Waffles, the sweet Luna and Flynn who each have ongoing medical needs that GRRoM finances, and the beautiful and stately Sadie Jane and Moose, among others. Their presence brought joy and smiles to everyone in attendance.

Raffle Extravaganza

In addition to the golf, the event featured a thrilling raffle with some truly amazing baskets and high-ticket items. To highlight a few of our items, attendees had the chance to win a Bourbon Basket, a Golden Retriever Themed Christmas Basket, a Happy Camper themed basket, and high-ticket items like a signed Jared Goff Lion's Football and a Dylan Larkin Red Wings jersey! The raffle added a fun and interactive element to the event, with participants eagerly bidding in hopes of winning these fantastic items.

Beyond the raffle, there were other fundraising opportunities such as the 50/50 raffle, where participants could buy an arm's length of raffle tickets for $20. The stuffed Golden puppies were a big hit, especially with the kids in attendance, further adding to the day's joyful and charitable spirit.

Delicious Delights

Lunch was a highlight of the day, featuring a generous build-your-own sandwich station with all the fixings imaginable, accompanied by deli sides and the most delicious cookies for dessert. The coffee bar and cash bar provided great beverages to keep everyone refreshed. During lunch, attendees were introduced to GRRoM's 2024 Board of Directors. Betty Curran, our president, gave a warm welcome, and Cheryl French, our Financial Director, delivered a heartfelt financial ask, underscoring the importance of our mission to rescue and rehome Goldens.

We extend our deepest gratitude to our generous sponsors and donors who made this event possible. Special thanks to Dort Financial for sponsoring the lite breakfast, Stacey Taylor of Quest Realty for sponsoring the cash beer cart, Tito's Vodka for providing a complimentary drink after golf, Dean Sellers Ford, Vast Passages, Matthew Gerry of Farm Bureau Insurance, Hulverson Insurance Agency of AAA Insurance, Lunghamer Buick, Vitale Wealth Management, and Bowman Chevrolet.
